In its first year with Inflexion, Nodor accelerated hiring, completed the acquisition of Autodarts in Germany and began expanding international markets.
Recognised as the largest and most advanced maker of premium dartboards and darts in the world, Nodor Group traces its roots to 1919. A successful century of growth saw the founding family turn to Inflexion to accelerate its journey further. “In the first 12 months alone, we hired a large number of people and completed a major acquisition. Without Inflexion’s backing, it would likely have taken a decade,” says Fiona Bluck, part of Nodor’s family leadership team.
Nodor’s key brands Winmau and Red Dragon are behind many of the world’s most talented professionals. Rapid growth led to two key acquisitions, first of Nodor in 1983, and later Winmau in 2001.
The family business operates from a purpose-built darts specific facility, with a sharp focus on engineering, technology and quality. This attention to detail means Nodor exports to over 100 countries today, having grown organically and through acquisition. The business has over 2,000 employees, with products sold via trade arrangements with major retailers as well as direct to the consumer. Its global success was recognised with the King’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade in 2024.
Nodor was self-funded until Inflexion partnered with the family in late 2024 to create a structure conducive to accelerated growth and allow the family to step back. The leadership team at that time was third-generation, with the Bluck family bringing Ford engineering experience and a passion for expanding the game through accessibility.
Why did Nodor bring in private equity?
Having grown steadily for decades meant the family leadership team could plan and evolve gradually. But rapid growth challenged that pace. “We realised that many of our systems and people had been developed internally. While that had been a strength, it also became a constraint. Too much was flowing through a small group of people, and the business was outpacing the development of the team. That’s when we knew we needed to bring in external capability,” recalls Fiona, who also wished to take a step back with her husband Vince, Managing Director of Nodor at the time of the Inflexion investment.
There was a clear opportunity, but Nodor needed to move quickly to capture it.
Private equity gave us that ability. Importantly, we weren’t just looking for capital – we wanted a partner who could come on the journey with us.
Indeed, within four months of the investment, a 16-strong senior interim team was recruited to kickstart value creation. Inflexion’s talent team then worked with the family to devise a suitable structure and bring on board 25 new hires in the first year to upgrade capabilities across the business, including a new Chair, CEO, CTrO, CFO, CCO, CPO and CPeO.
The Inflexion investment also facilitated the planned retirement of Alex Bluck, who led product development and manufacturing, while his brother Vince Bluck and his wife Fiona have reinvested and remain involved in the business in non-executive roles.
How has Inflexion helped Nodor grow?
The pace of change since the investment has been significant, with Inflexion’s value creation team bringing the expertise Nodor needed. “We’ve introduced a new structure, a new C-suite, interim roles, and much more formalised systems. It’s been challenging, particularly as different cultures come together, but we’re now coming through that transition,” Fiona says.
Inflexion’s investment is supporting Nodor with geographic and channel expansion, product development, and boosting its technology to enhance the customer experience.
A shift to direct-to-consumer (D2C) is a big focus. It was already strong in B2B distribution, but Inflexion’s Digital team is helping expand Nodor’s digital capabilities, supporting a global digital brand presence through social media and online communities. A specialist from Inflexion’s Ignite network of third party functional experts worked with Nodor to upgrade the Winmau site to enable transactions, key in the D2C journey.
The acquisition in 2025 of autoscoring business Autodarts in Germany shifted Nodor from a pure manufacturer into one with a software product and online community. It has given players the ability to play online against opponents, as well as track and analyse their games and training. This technology is welcoming more to the game and deepening engagement through data, gamification and new online playing experiences.
While the acquisition wasn’t new to Nodor, Inflexion’s backing made it smoother. “M&A has been central to our strategy for decades. Each acquisition has brought something different – capabilities, market share, or technology. Acquiring Autodarts brought a strong technology capability that we had struggled to build internally. Working with Inflexion allowed us to move faster and more effectively,” Fiona maintains.
And it boosted Nodor’s focus on innovation, a key part of the business’s success since inception, and helping the brand to diversify into new categories rather than just grow in existing markets.
More recently, Nodor supported the opening of a new Junior Darts Corporation (JDC)/Winmau International Darts Centre in Bristol as a permanent world-class hub for player development, grassroots growth, and elite competition. The facility will host academies, coaching programmes, and flagship JDC events, all within a professional environment. The business has also launched an updated dartboard, with Winmau Blade X featuring a 13% deeper sisal bed for better dart penetration and a 360-degree rotating number ring.
With support from Inflexion’s value acceleration team, Nodor has professionalised its finance and data capabilities through a finance team build-out, stronger financial controls, upgraded systems and the rollout of live BI dashboards. This has helped shift decision-making from fragmented spreadsheets and limited visibility to more timely, data-driven insights.
“The Inflexion investment wasn’t really about the money,” says Vince Bluck, part of the founding family leadership team. “I see our family more as stewards of this great business. But to take it to the next level we needed a new system, a new structure.”
The US is a key growth market for Nodor and one the company has been focused on, building out the team and infrastructure. This is a priority market that Nodor and Inflexion will continue to focus on.
Tom Brown, Nodor Group CEO commented, “One year on, it's been exciting to see the impact of the investment. We've continued to grow, strengthened our capabilities, and expanded into the US, one of our biggest growth markets. With darts reaching new audiences around the world and growing rapidly among younger fans, we're well positioned to build on this momentum and support the next phase of the sport's global growth. The success achieved during the first year is a great example of what's possible when investment is matched with a clear vision, a strong team, and a commitment to delivering for our customers.’’
