Digital Perspectives Dinner: Actually Making Money from Data
The latest event in Inflexion’s series of Digital Perspectives dinners focused on one of the most fervent areas of debate in technology: data and how to maximise commercial value from it. Hosted by Charlie Cannell, Digital Director, and Gareth Healy, Partner and specialist in the TMT and travel sectors, leaders from world-class technology and media businesses gathered to hear from Andrew Miller, formerly CEO of Guardian Media Group. His experiences and opinions on identifying the true value of data, be it big or small, as well as the challenges faced by Boards on how best to invest in this hard-to-define area, provoked a healthy debate.
Representatives from Google and EE added their own, fascinating viewpoints. Whilst specific conclusions will vary, there was clear agreement that the themes of ownership, security and responsibility need to mature before the wider population becomes comfortable with the idea of data becoming a currency of real value.
