On Saturday 11th July, a group of 15 Inflexion colleagues walked 36 miles in 24 hours ‘Round the Houses’ to raise money for The Roundhouse. Through the generosity of Inflexion’s valued network, the team raised over £250,000.
The Roundhouse is a charity with an objective to provide ‘space to create’ for 11 to 25 year olds. The Roundhouse has a particular focus on those young people who have been excluded, marginalised or disadvantaged by society and work to enable them to find pathways back into education, work or simply to enjoy a wider cultural life. It is anticipated that soon there will be two million young people who will be unemployed as a direct result of Covid-19. Many were disadvantaged before the pandemic, and need support now more than ever.
The Inflexion Foundation has already provided support to those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic this year. In April, The Inflexion Foundation announced that it was donating £2.25m to charities providing support at this time including £2 million to the National Emergencies Trust and £250,000 to Turn2Us. The Inflexion Foundation also supported the National Tutoring Programme online pilot last month, which was launched as part of the Government’s plans to support pupils in the next academic year and beyond.
Inflexion have supported the Roundhouse for many years, and we knew how vital it was to increase our support during the current pandemic. It was a privilege to take part in this challenge together with so many of my Inflexion colleagues in what was a great team effort. I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone that sponsored us. Thanks to their generosity the money raised allows The Roundhouse to continue their vital work at this time of exceptional need.
We can’t thank the Inflexion team enough for making the ‘Round the Houses’ challenge such a great success. The Roundhouse is the largest creative centre for young people in Europe and as lockdown started we lost over 70% of our income. Last year we worked with over 7,000 young people with the majority from low socio economic backgrounds. We have, and continue to give, young people access to creative opportunities where they can learn skills, gain experience and move on in their lives and find pathways in to work – which is needed now more than ever.
