UK Power Reserve appoints new Chairperson

Inflexion is pleased to announce that our portfolio company, UK Power Reserve (UKPR), has announced the appointment of Nick Horler as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, with immediate effect. UK Power Reserve is the UK’s leading independent developer and operator of flexible, smart and affordable power generation.

Nick has worked in the energy industry for 31 years, spending 12 years in oil with Phillips Petroleum (Conoco Phillips). In 1996 he moved into the electricity sector with PowerGen, where he set up and ran PowerGen Energy Trading Ltd as Managing Director from 1998 to 2001. Upon its takeover by E.On, Nick became the Managing Director of Retail and Board member of E.On UK for six years to 2007. In June 2008 he was appointed CEO of Scottish Power plc, a post he held until the end of 2010.

Nick’s credentials at Board and Chair level include roles on the Boards of the Royal Mail, the Go-Ahead Group and Thames Water in April 2014. He also acts as Chair for Meter Provida Ltd, Adler and Allen Ltd and Alderney Renewable Energy Ltd. During 2011-2014, Nick chaired the Advisory Board of KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources practice.

Tim Emrich, Chief Executive Officer for UKPR, commented: “This is an exciting time for the company and I’m entirely confident that Nick is the right person to chair the Board for the next phase of its development.   After UKPR secured new investment from Equistone and Inflexion, our Executive Team conducted a thorough search to identify the most suitable person to for the role of Chairperson.  We were fortunate to have a very strong field of potential candidates but at the end it was clear to us that Nick was the best choice.  He has a very strong record in both managing and chairing businesses focused on energy and utility services, and a strong empathy with our ethos, culture and commitment to keeping the lights on. We are delighted that he has accepted the role.”

Commenting on his appointment, Nick Horler said: “I admire the strength of the company’s business and I strongly endorse the common values shared throughout the company, its Executive Team and employees, plus their consistent focus on maintaining security of supply.  It is an honour to take up this important role and I look forward to seeing UKPR continue to deliver its strategy for growth. ”
